What is THC flower? The bud, the acid and what we sell
In brief. THC flower is the dried bud of the cannabis plant. On the plant, and in the bag, the bud holds very little THC. It holds THCA, the acid form, and heat turns THCA into THC. What we sell is hemp THCA flower: indoor bud whose lab report counts it as hemp under today’s federal rule.

The bud and the acid
Cannabis makes its cannabinoids in resin glands on the flower, mostly as acids. THCA does not become THC until it is heated. In a laboratory study, THCA in a heated sample fell to almost nothing within 30 minutes at 110°C and within 6 minutes at 145°C (Wang and colleagues, Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research, 2016). A flame or a vaporizer is far hotter, so the change is nearly immediate.
That is why a lab report lists both THCA and delta-9 THC, and why the figure that matters is total THC: delta-9 THC plus 0.877 times THCA (7 CFR 990.1). Our page on THC flower percentages works through the numbers.
Why a THC flower shop sells hemp THCA flower
Until Dec. 11, 2026, federal law counts only delta-9 THC when it decides what is hemp (7 U.S.C. 1639o). Bud low in delta-9 THC but high in THCA can therefore be sold as hemp today. From Dec. 11, 2026, the definition counts total THC, THCA included, at 0.3% of dry weight (P.L. 119-37, sec. 781; date set by H.R. 6500). Flower like ours then counts as marijuana under federal law, and we stop selling it.
States set their own rules, and some ban smokable hemp or THCA flower outright. Please check your state’s law before you order.
